Checkmate ends the game, and beautiful piece sacrifices to force checkmate have always fascinated chess players and study composers alike. This book contains puzzles from 500+ years of playing and studying the game of chess, from the old masters to recent games played on all levels.

Checkmate Quiz is a new way of presenting checkmates. Rather than just solving the checkmating puzzles, the correct name of the mate must be chosen from a list and match the position for extra points. Most of the 61 checkmates with names are known to the moderm reader, while others are new or rediscovered in older books. The checkmates are named based on a coherent system and with respect to history. A wide variery of quizzes are represented in this volume, from the standard 6-puzzle quiz to 12-puzzle quizzes. Mixed levels are included as well, with 2 or 3 different levels within the same quiz.

Unlike a normal puzzle book, the checkmate quizzes add the historical dimension of checkmates with names. Using imagination, the names can be a clue to the puzzles, thus honing different skills in the problem-solving process. The quizzes are perfect for scholastic chess classes and on chess club evenings, where players can compete alone or in groups.
