Reinfeld on the Endgame is a specialty chess book from Russell Enterprises focused on several aspects of endgames, with particular attention to the often-overlooked transition between the middlegame and the endgame.
Rather than covering the entire endgame in one huge volume, this book concentrates on transition phases, including entering a favorable endgame, entering an unfavorable endgame, missed opportunities, and defending difficult positions. Each section is introduced with pithy explanations, and each example is shown and then summarized.
The discussion of favorable endgame transitions is divided into material or positional advantages, while later sections address compulsion, poor choice, incorrect appraisal, and specific exceptions such as the queenside majority, bishops of opposite colors, and bishop vs. knight. It is a useful source of endgame and general chess knowledge for serious students of the game.
