Shady Side is a Caissa Editions chess book by John Hilbert, published in 2000. This 481-page title is written in Algebraic notation (AN) and presents a chronicle of America’s most notorious chess master.
Drawing on many of his own papers, the book tells the story of his life, his loves, his cons, and his many chess experiences across a 60+-year career. It also includes 570 of his games, some with full notes, plus much US chess history and excellent photos.
