GM Roman Dzindzichashvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR. He won the Junior Championship of the Soviet Union in 1962, the University Championships in 1966 and 1968, earned the IM title in 1970, and the GM title in 1977. He also won Lone Pine in 1980, led the 1984 U.S. Olympiad team, and won the U.S. Chess Championship in 1983 and 1989.
