At age 9, she found a chess club that would give her a bowl of porridge to eat if she played chess there, and she went every day because there was no food in her home. Within a few years, she won both the school championship and the junior chess championship of her country.
From age 14, she represented Uganda in international competition in Sudan, South Africa, Kenya, Russia, Turkey, Norway and Baku. From Baku, she was flown to New York and then to Hollywood California, USA for the World Premier of the movie made about her life, “The Queen of Katwe”, a Walt Disney Movie.
