Play The Orangutan: 1.B4 is a chess book by Carstenchess about the Orangutan, also known as the Sokolsky opening.
Named by grandmaster Savielly Tartakower in 1924 after a visit to the New York Central Park Zoo, or after the opening’s primary researcher and practitioner Alexei Sokolsky, this unusual first move challenges normal conventions by launching an instant attack on Black’s queenside right from the outset.
Experienced chess author Carsten Hansen presents a White repertoire to help you navigate Black’s many tricky alternatives and reach a position where White can play for the win. Browse more titles in Accessories > Chess Books or compare with 2006 Chess Life Annual Book.
