The Iron English is a chess book by New In Chess that explores the English Opening, with Grandmaster Simon Williams and International Master Richard Palliser guiding the reader through one of White’s most dynamic choices.
The book focuses on the Botvinnik formation with 2 Nc3, 3 g3, 4 Bg2, 5 e4 and 6 Nge2. It is designed for club and tournament players who want a compact but aggressive system built around plans and strategy rather than rote memorisation.
Williams and Palliser examine all aspects of this highly complex opening and provide well-researched, fresh, and innovative analysis. Each annotated game includes instructive commentary on typical middlegame plans and practical lessons for playing the opening.
