The French Defense - Properly Played is a chess book by Joachim Beyer Verlag focused on the French Defense (1.e4 e6), one of the most important and popular chess openings.
Written by German Grandmaster Wolfgang Uhlmann, a world-renowned expert on this opening, the book presents 76 selected games, mostly his own, with theoretical remarks that explain the positional evaluation and the creation of a plan.
This is the 4th updated and amended edition, and it also includes five more recent games by other French specialists. For more chess reading, browse Accessories > Chess Books and compare it with Clearance - The Modernized Marshall Attack.
Uhlmann’s career path with his favorite French lines is traced throughout the collection, offering well-founded instructions for treating this opening.
