Botvinnik The Invincible is a chess book by Ishi Press that focuses on Mikhail Moiseyevich Botvinnik and his place in chess history.
Written in 1946, two years before Botvinnik won the World Chess Championship, the book is notable for accurately predicting his eventual victory. Botvinnik was born on August 17, 1911, won his first of six Soviet championships in 1931 at age 20, won the World Chess Championship in 1948, and held the title with two breaks until 1963. He announced his retirement from chess in 1970.
The description also places Botvinnik in the wider championship conversation, including Tigran Petrosian’s 1963 title win and Bobby Fischer’s view of Botvinnik as the strongest player in the world other than Fischer himself.
