Offered here is a new Premium Travel Chess Set, a Frank Camaratta Signature design, offered by the House of Staunton. The pegged chessmen are crafted from boxwood and Ebony. The pieces and pawns stand 1-0″ tall for easy identification and play. For enhanced durability, the chessmen have solid brass pegs which slide snugly into brass sleeves inserted into holed in the chessboard, eliminating broken wooden pegs and worn holes in the chessboard leading to loosen fitting pieces.
These Premium Travel Chess Set chess pieces are housed in a flat Figured Walnut matched veneer wooden box with logo. A drawer pulls out to expose the chessboard that has 1-0″ screen and maple squares for improved visibility and two rows per side to store captured pieces. The lid is designed to be inverted and slid back under the chessboard. This design helps to keep the unit together as a single piece, without the annoyance of a flap hindering play or the problem of storing the case when using the chess set. The unit is designed to that the drawer can be opened and closed with the pieces in place, ready or the next game or to continue the game in progress.
Another unique feature of this Premium Travel Chess Set, not heretofore found in any travel chess set, is the inclusion of two “Special Pieces” per side, the Archbishop and the Chancellor. The archbishop combines the movements of the Bishop and Knight, while the Chancellor adds the power of the Knight to the Rook. The result is a variant of “Capablanca Chess” without the necessity or a specially sized chessboard. In this variant, the two Special pieces are held “in-hand” and introduced into play according to rules spelled out in the accompanying pamphlet. The pamphlet explains the two variants, Sharper Chess invented by Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan and Master Bruce Harper. C-Chess is a variation suggested by International Master Frank Camaratta.
