Berkeley Wins Pan-American Intercollegiates," "World's Fastest Grandmaster," Pan-Pacific International coverage by NM Jim Eade, "Stein Sweeps Nor Cal Scholastics," and more. The journal changed to an 8.5 by 11 inches format for the August-September 1990 publication.
Later issues in this range include the magazine becoming the official publication of the Northern California Chess Association or CalChess as of February-March 1991, along with features like "Alan Stein Wins Denker Tournament of State High School Champions," "Jordy Mont-Reynaud Awarded Chess Scholarship," "My Game with Alekhine," and "Best in West Duel in San Rafael, State Scholastic Championship."
