Designed and scaled larger than the original, it accommodates up to a 4.4" King height with 2 additional Queens. The original Carton-Pierre caskets date back to the mid-19th Century and were available as an option from 1849 until October of 1889.
This style was designed in 1849 for Leuchars by Joseph L. Williams using the carton-pierre material designed and manufactured by George Jackson & Sons. These Neo-Gothic Sarcophagi were produced to house the revolutionary new Staunton Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke and introduced by Jaques of London in September of 1849.
