Five In A Row (Renju) For Beginners To Advanced Players is a book by Goro Sakata published by Ishi Press in 2009 (2nd).
This 164-page book uses Notationless (NO) presentation and explains Renju, the Japanese name for the game, also known as Lianzhu in Chinese. It covers the modified and improved version of the ancient game of Five-in-a-Row, also known as Gomoku.
The book also explains why the traditional version was modified: the first move gives such a large advantage that the first player will win every, or almost every, game. Renju adds restrictions for the first player so the second player has a fair chance to win.
