The author has compiled all the available American (and other) chess sources for this year (The Turf, Field, and Farm, Sunday Mercury, Round Table, The Spirit of the Times, New York Albion, New York Clipper, etc., all the New York dailies, British chess columns, and European chess magazines, among others) and has collected a total of 73 games played by Mackenzie in this year, almost all of which are fully annotated.

The author has described in detail all the chess tournaments and matches Mackenzie played in 1869, including descriptions of all his chess activities and New York chess life.
