This volume is Shopworn - The Life & Games Of Vasily Smyslov - Vol 1, a chess biography and game collection from The House Of Staunton about the seventh world champion, Vasily Smyslov.
Smyslov played close to 3,000 tournament games over seven decades, from the era of Lasker and Capablanca to the days of Anand and Carlsen. From 1948 to 1958, he took part in four world championships and became world champion in 1957. The book also covers his remarkable comeback in the early 1980s, when he reached the finals of the candidates’ cycle at age 63.
In this first volume of a multi-volume set, Russian FIDE master Andrey Terekhov traces Smyslov’s development from his formative years to finishing second in the world championship match tournament. The book includes access to rare Soviet-era archival material, invaluable family archives, dozens of photographs, and 49 deeply annotated games. German grandmaster Karsten Müller adds a special look at Smyslov’s endgames.
