Jan Timman’s The Art Of The Endgame: My Journeys In The Magical World Of Endgame Studies is a thoughtful collection of endgame studies shaped by one of chess’s great minds. Published by New In Chess, it reflects Timman’s long fascination with the mystery and splendour of endgame studies.
First published in 2011, this revised edition has been updated with the help of engines. Timman found that a few studies needed correction or had alternative solutions, so he removed six studies, replaced another six with better versions, and added fourteen new studies, including two published here for the first time.
Timman explains how studies by other composers inspired him to create dozens of brand-new studies of his own. A former world championship candidate who reached number two on the FIDE world rankings, he is also the author of acclaimed books such as Timman’s Titans and Max Euwe’s Best Games, and received the title of FIDE Master of Composition in 2022.
