This volume covers William Addison becoming director of the Chess Room at the Mechanics Institute in 1965, Duncan Suttles’s sweeping victories from 1964-1967, Paul Quillen’s important wins after his release from prison, and Jacqueline Piatigorsky’s Second Piatigorsky Cup in 1966. It also notes the launch of two major annual events still played today: the National Open in Las Vegas, started in 1964, and the American Open in Los Angeles, started in 1965.
