The 1849 Collector Series Luxury Chess Pieces from The House Of Staunton are crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849.
This full-tournament sized set features a 4.4" King with a 1.9725" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by master artisans, crafted out of the highest grade woods, heavily weighted, and finished with embossed English Leather base pads with the House of Staunton® logo under the Kings and luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces.
The set includes 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, plus an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's plaque with an adhesive backing for placement on the underside of a Chess box. The distinctive open-mitered Bishop and Knight design is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles.).
