The Original Cooke 1849 Series Luxury Chess Pieces are an accurate recreation of the first Boxwood and Ebony Staunton Pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke in 1849.
This full size set features a 4.4" King with a 1.9" diameter base. Each set includes 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, and the pieces are cushioned in green English baize. The chessmen are new, hand carved by master artisans, crafted from the highest grade woods, heavily weighted, and finished with billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces.
The design captures the board presence and craftsmanship of the original Staunton pattern, including the finely detailed Knight head inspired by the noble steeds in the Parthenon frieze.
