The Collector II Series Luxury Chess Pieces are a full tournament-sized set from The House of Staunton, crafted to replicate the original Staunton pattern Chessmen registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849.
This set features a 4.0" King with a 1.8" diameter base. The chess pieces are hand carved by master artisans from the highest grade woods, heavily weighted, and finished with gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings and luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces.
A distinctive feature of the set is the open-mitered Bishop and Knight design, modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles.). Each new set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.
Included with the Chessmen is an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's plaque with engraved production details and adhesive backing. If you are comparing premium chess sets, you may also want to view 5 Dvd Set Bruce Lee Complete Movie Collection.
