The Collector Series Luxury Chess Pieces are a full tournament-sized chess set from The House of Staunton, crafted to replicate the original Staunton pattern Chessmen registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849.
This set features a 4.4" King with a 2.0" diameter base. The chess pieces are hand carved by master artisans and made from the highest grade woods. They are heavily weighted, with gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings, luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other chess pieces, and a beautiful finish.
A distinctive detail of this set is the open-mitered Bishop and Knight design, modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles). Each set is new and includes 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.
