The Imperial Collector Series Luxury Chess Pieces from The House of Staunton are a full tournament-sized, full club-sized chess set designed for serious play and display.
This set features a 4.4" King with a 1.9" diameter base. The pieces are hand carved by master artisans from the highest grade woods and are heavily weighted with brass discs affixed to their bases, helping prevent the hairline cracks associated with traditionally weighted chess sets. Kings use embossed English Leather base pads, while the other pieces feature luxurious billiard cloth base pads.
The design recreates the original Staunton pattern chessmen registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. Its standout details include the open-mitered Bishop and the original Knight design, sculpted by Frank A. Camaratta, Jr. with a downturned head, flowing mane, and aggressive expression.
Included with the set is an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity and a brass manufacturer’s plaque with engraved production details and adhesive backing. Browse more options in Accessories > Chess Pieces or compare with The Bcc Royal Series Luxury Chess Pieces - 4" King.
