The Italian Renaissance – Volume I is a chess opening book from Quality Chess by GM Martyn Kravtsiv, presenting this repertoire from White’s perspective.
This first volume covers the Bishop’s Opening and the early move order 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3. It explains how 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 can be used as an Anti-Petroff move order or as a weapon in its own right, and how it may or may not transpose to the main Italian lines.
Kravtsiv also addresses White’s response to the Petroff Defence (2...Nf6), recommending the well-regarded 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.Nc3 variation and a range of ideas designed to create problems for Black. The Italian Game is covered in the second volume.
