The Zagreb '59 Series Chess Pieces are a full tournament-sized chess set from The House of Staunton, designed with a distinct European flair and styling.
This set features a 3.875" King with a 1.75" diameter base. The chessmen are hand carved by master artisans, crafted from the highest grade woods, heavily weighted, fitted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads, and finished with a beautiful lacquered finish.
Inspired by one of the most popular chess sets used in major international chess tournaments throughout the 1950s and 1960s, especially the World Championship Candidates Match held in Bied, Zagreb in 1959, this design also includes reinforced Pawn collars, stylized Knights, minimal Queen crenellations, and both removable King finial styles: ball finial (cross) and Formée cross.
The set is new and includes 34 chessmen, including four Queens. If you're comparing historical tournament styles, you may also want to review the Clearance - The Hungarian Ii Series Chess Pieces - 3.875" King.
