This limited edition hardcover book presents Ama No Kata by Gichin and Gigo Funakoshi, translated by Ayano Shimada. Originally created in 1941 and thought to be lost until its recent rediscovery, it is an important work in the history of Shotokan karate.
The book includes professionally transcribed and translated original Japanese text, along with several traditional Kumite combinations. It also features a photo gallery of over 100 rare photos from Japanese karate enthusiasts and from Hal Sharp's private collection. Mr. Sharp was a bodyguard for the Emperor of Japan at the end of WW2.
