He started training in 1965 with Sensei Dan Ivan and Sensei Fumio Demura, and earned a 4th Dan Black Belt. He also has an IMAF 8th Dan Black Belt in Karate-Do and is experienced in Judo, Aikido, and Kobudo (weapons). He is an AAU National Chief Referee and the United States Branch Director of the "International Martial Arts Federation".
