This Rising Sun DVD features Leroy Rodrigues teaching and demonstrating lost and forgotten Shorinji Ryu Karate katas. Rodrigues was an original student of Richard "Biggie" Kim in San Francisco and a student of Toyama Kanken, Kinjo Hiroshi, Gogen Yamaguchi, and Yoshida Kotaro.
The katas include history and bunkai, and they are demonstrated in both slow motion and performance pace. These are the original forms that came from Okinawa to Japan, going as far back as the 1700's, and this is the first time they have appeared on DVD.
