Tech Tip
Crank arm threads may have over-spray of the powder coating on them. This doesn't impact assembly of a new bike, but can present problems when it is time to remove and replace a crank arm in the field. The powder coating can block the tool from threading in fully. Clean the threads before using your crank puller to avoid damage to the tool or crank arm. Use a stiff wire brush. If needed, use a 25 mm × 1.0 tap for heavy buildup.
