The Collector Series Luxury Chess Set from The House Of Staunton is a full tournament-sized set with a 3.75" King and a 1.7" diameter base. The pieces are hand carved by master artisans from the highest grade woods and feature heavy weighting, gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings, luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other pieces, and a beautiful finish.
This set is crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive open-mitered Bishop and Knight design is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles). Each new set includes 34 chessmen, including four Queens.
The set also includes a Superior Traditional Elm Burl / Bird's Eye Maple wooden Chessboard made in Spain with 2.25" squares, a 0.5'' thickness, satin finish, molded edge, Elm Burl frame, and Elm Burl (dark) and Bird's Eye Maple (light) squares. The Mahogany Premium Chess Box has two compartments lined in green billiard cloth, brass quadrant hinges, and a lock & key.
