The Zagreb '59 Series Chess Set, Box, & Board Combination brings together a full tournament-sized chess set, a premium chessboard, and a lined storage box in one coordinated package.
The chessmen feature a 3.875" King with a 1.75" diameter base. Each set is hand carved by master artisans from the highest grade woods, heavily weighted, finished beautifully, and fitted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads. The set includes 34 chessmen, including four Queens.
Designed from the popular tournament style used throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the set includes both styles of removable King finials: the ball finial (cross) and the more recognizable Formee cross. It also features reinforced Pawn collars, stylized Knights, and minimal Queen crenellations for durability. The board is the Superior Traditional Elm Burl / Bird's Eye Maple wooden Chessboard with 2.25" squares, Elm Burl (dark) and Bird's Eye Maple (light) squares, an Elm Burl frame, a veneered construction, 0.5" thickness, satin finish, a beautiful moulded edge, and a 22.5" x 22.5" footprint. The Premium Chess Box is lined in green billiard cloth, divided, and features brass quadrant hinges and a lock & key. It is available with or without the House of Staunton logo laser etched on the lid.
